About Plunger / French Press

A French Press, also known as a cafetiere, cafetiere a piston, Cafeteria, press pot, coffee press or coffee plunger, is a coffee brewing device patented by Italian designer Attilio Calimani in 1929

What you need

  • 21g of Freshly Ground Coffee
  • 350ml of Boiled Water
  • 1x 3-6 cup French Press
  • 1x Cup
  • 1x Kitchen Scale
  • 1x Spoon
  • 1x Kettle

Preparation

Boil the kettle

We recommend boiling more water than required to keep your cup warm while you brew

Weigh out the coffee & grind it

1tbsp ~ 12g. Make sure you adjust the grinder first to get the correct grind size.

Place the french press on the scale.

Do not turn the scale on yet

Remove the filter part from the French Press

*This is the plunging unit

Add your coffee to the French Press

Gently shake or tap the French Press to level out the ground coffee.

Turn on the scale, make sure it reads '0g'

Some scales will require to be switched to "grams" mode and or to be tare'd manually.

Process

Add 60g of water and evenly saturate the coffee

Scale: 60g

Gently stir the grounds to ensure all coffee is immersed

Timer: 00:15
Scale: 60g

Wait for the coffee to bloom

Timer: 00:30
Scale: 60g

Pour the remaining 290g of water in a spiral motion

Timer: 01:00
Scale: 350g

Allow the coffee to steep for 4 minutes

Timer: 05:00
Scale: 350g

Gently press the filter down and serve in warm cup
